There are lots of general things that
you can do around the house to go green. Energy saving is a vital aspect to green living. To
accomplish energy saving around the home you can do some simple things such as, setting the temperature in
your home a couple of degrees cooler in winter and higher in summer, replace incandescent lighting with
compact fluorescent bulbs, unplug electrical appliances when you are not using them, wash your laundry in cold
water whenever possible, and dry laundry on a clothesline or rack.
Just as important as saving energy is saving water. You can accomplish this through easy
methods like taking shorter showers, installing low-flow showerheads and toilets, placing an aerator on every
faucet, and planting drought resistant greenery around your home that will require less watering.
There are many other things you can do to go green as an individual, like walking or biking more
often, buying local farm raised foods, recycling all the waste products you can, and using green cleaning agents
instead of toxic chemicals. These are just a few general ideas to going green. The complete list is
truly unlimited.
