Hot Topic Of The Day – Greenhouse Gases
If you read the newspaper, watch television, or spend any amount of time online, then you are already aware that global warming, greenhouse gases and the gradual change of the earth’s climate system is a hot topic. Hollywood, the federal government, and environmental groups all have something to say about it. It can be difficult for those of us who aren’t scientists to know who to believe. Politicians on both sides of the argument support whichever stance benefits them economically and movie stars are just looking to be heard. Where can we go to learn the truth about pollution and other greenhouse gases that are causing our planet to get warmer? We need some accurate information if we are going to respond accordingly to this quickly growing problem.
Greenhouse gases are any gases that are very fond of infra-red atmospheric radiation. They absorb this radiation, which causes the Earth to warm. Here is the process: Sun sends waves of radiation (light and heat) to Earth. As it passes through the layer of gases, some are absorbed. It hits the Earth and bounces back, again being absorbed by the gases. The gases sends waves of radiation to Earth.

Dealing With The Greenhouse Effect
You may be sick of hearing about the greenhouse effect, or you may be the one who sits at the coffee shop every morning preaching to your friends about the impending doom of the planet if we don’t do something about it soon. The truth is, the reason most people don’t want to hear about it is because they know that if they are going to be concerned, then it will affect their everyday lives. Every aspect of our lives involves some sore of industry that creates the emissions of greenhouse gases. There is simply no way to avoid it.
It isn’t that they don’t care about the greenhouse effect. The fact is, most people simply don’t know what to do about it on a real level. They don’t know how to reduce their own emissions of greenhouse gases much less save the world. Take all those factories you’re supporting by using so much detergent. We could all get together and decide not to wash our clothes and bodies quite as much. It wouldn’t be unhealthy, and it would put a dent in how much those factories run, and probably get them to find a less-hazardous way to make detergent. But who, realistically, is going to do that? You, as an individual, stand to lose a lot of social status by going around unwashed. Who is going to sacrifice his or her social status for the sake of life on Planet Earth?
